This mineral specimen originates from the Lavrio mining district in Greece, an area known for its complex mineralization and long mining history dating back to ancient times. The piece consists of pale green fluorite crystal formations associated with calcite, both developed on a natural host rock.

Fluorite and calcite commonly occur together in hydrothermal veins. In Lavrio, mineral-rich fluids circulated through fractures in the rock, depositing fluorite as cubic crystals. Later or overlapping stages of mineralization allowed calcite to form as white crystalline layers or coatings on and between the fluorite structures.


Physical Qualities

The fluorite displays a soft green color with translucent to semi-transparent clarity. Its cubic crystal habit is visible, though the crystals are intergrown, forming a compact structure rather than isolated cubes. Subtle internal zoning and natural surface variations can be observed under light.

Calcite appears as white to off-white crystalline deposits across the surface. It forms in granular and layered textures, sometimes partially covering the fluorite.
